The Glier family in Cincinnati (Ohio)


Robert C. Glier

Robert C. Glier, a son of Carl Friedrich Glier's second marriage, learnt the wind instrument making from his father and sold the instruments, which were produced in his factory. He did salestours up to Mecklenburg. In 1872 he went to America. First he worked at Wurlitzer from 1883 - 1900, then he made himself up as a violin maker, but continued to sell his works through Wurlitzer. Robert C. Glier is known - according to Jalovec [6] - for his experiments to produce violinplates with native woods (Balsa tree).
